ABOUT MCA-JORDAN
The Millennium Challenge Account – Jordan (MCA-Jordan) is a limited liability company owned by the Government of Jordan. MCA-Jordan has been established in June 2010 to manage and implement the $275.1 million Compact funded by the US Government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). The Compact consists of several water and wastewater projects in Zarqa Governorate that have been identified by the Government of Jordan as priority projects eligible to effectively contribute to the poverty alleviation in Jordan.

Success Stories
COMPACT PROJECTS
The Water Network Project aims to reduce high rates of water loss through construction and repairs to reservoirs, pump stations and tertiary pipes, along with replacement of household connections and meters, in the two poorest, most heavily populated water service areas of Zarqa Governorate.
The Wastewater Network Project aims to replace and rehabilitate undersized trunk lines and expand lateral sewers in the neighborhoods of Zarqa, Russeifa and Hashemiyah. The extension of lateral sewer lines is expected to raise wastewater service coverage rates from 72 percent to of the local population to 82 percent.
This project aims to expand As-Samra Wastewater Treatment Plant in partnership with a private sector operator, which will mobilize a portion of the construction costs. This arrangement will enhance operational sustainability to ensure that the treatment plant continues to function well beyond the life of the Compact.

Social & Environmental Activities
MCA-Jordan integrates MCC approved standards and international best practices in environmental and social sustainability into the design and implementation of its Compact projects. Both entities release that the pursuit of sustainable economic growth and a healthy environment are related. Gender Activities
MCC recognizes that gender inequality can be a significant constraint to economic growth and poverty reduction. Consequently, MCC works closely with MCA-Jordan to ensure that gender is considered in the the development, design and implementation of the Compact.
M&E Activities
One of the ways MCC is changing the conversation about foreign assistance is an M&E approach that starts with tracking performance on processes and outputs at the beginning of a Compact’s life and then continues to track high-level outcomes and impacts at the end to concretely assess how its activities have affected poverty and economic growth.
